HUMAN #weallbleedred This community paint by numbers mural was painted by the Poe Mill Community in Greenville, SC. It was a way to bring people together from all walks of life, ages, religions with the goal to create a piece of public art that spoke directly to the human condition
There were so many moving pieces of this project it’ll be hard to touch on everything.
The Communities of Opportunity Mural Program (COMP) aims to improve public health and unite communities with murals as the tool. This particular painting is the culmination of a partnership between The City of Greenville, The Greenville Housing Authority, NHE Property Management, residents of the Gallery at West Greenville, Legacy Charter student volunteers, Greenville Police Department, Greenville’s Fire Department, countless vendors and myself.
We honored living local legends Assistant Fire Chief Roy Mack and Southernsides very own powerhouse Ms Mary Duckett.
The arts concept was entirely community driven and the imagery was drawn by current residents of TGHA: Traniqua Darity, Katie Law and Nick Burns.
The energy surrounding this experience was palatable, the togetherness gave you chills and the ripple effect will be seen for years to come.
Thank you ALL for sharing in this journey. Video coming soon :)
SUPER SPECIAL THANK YOU to my friend Tabatha, this could never have happened if not for your beautiful soul.
The redefining moment in my artistic career.
Painting at Poe Mill was the first time in my artistic career where I felt my art had a profound impact on anything or anyone for that matter. These pieces, the experience working within the community for over a year, the people I met, the laughs, arguments and friends I left with are the “why” I continue to do what I do.
Stay humble, be gracious and above all be kind. We are all humans walking around a rock that is suspended in outer space. #weallbleedred
